Our mission
Land in India is still measured in dozens of regional units — Bigha, Biswa, Katha, Gaj, Kanal, Marla, Cent, Guntha, and more. The same word can mean different areas in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, or Gujarat. BhumiMeter exists to make those differences visible and calculable in seconds, without guesswork.
We combine a single conversion engine with curated state data so you can move from any supported unit to square feet, acres, hectares, or any other unit on the list — and share a link that preserves your exact state and variant selection.
How conversions work
Every number on BhumiMeter flows from one source: our data files in src/data/ and the conversion engine in src/lib/convert.ts. Fixed units (acre, hectare, square meter) use standard definitions. Variable units (Bigha, Katha, Biswa) resolve through your selected state and, where applicable, pucca vs kachha variants or district overrides.
When a measurement is disputed or varies locally, we show a banner asking you to verify with tehsil records rather than hiding the uncertainty.

Content & accuracy
Guides and conversion pages are written for clarity and SEO, but they are educational — not legal advice. Values are compiled from published government gazettes, revenue manuals, and widely cited regional standards. Local practice can differ; always confirm before a transaction.
See our Disclaimer for the full limitation of liability, and Contact if you spot an error or have a source we should review.
Technology
BhumiMeter is a static site built with Astro, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS, deployed on Vercel for speed and global availability. The interactive converter uses a small client script; everything else ships as HTML for fast load times and strong Core Web Vitals.
